The Senior Ensemble is the premier
musical theatre performance ensemble at MadCAP’s School of the Arts. In
addition to touring, Senior Ensemble participates in three projects, ranging
from cabaret style recitals to a fully staged production. During the
2007-2008 school year, the Senior Musical Theatre Ensemble rehearses on
Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 PM. They perform at the Winter Concert in
December, a musical theater medley in February and a musical theatre project
(Mulan) in May. Students who participate in the Senior Performance Ensemble
are also required to take a 30 minute private voice lesson during the school
year. (This year, there will not be lessons during performance weeks.)
Highlights Of The 2006-07 Season:
Highlights included an overnight
retreat in the fall! This retreat was a wonderful time for the students to
work and play together, becoming a cohesive group. Students performing with
Senior Ensemble are encouraged to perform solo, small ensemble, and large
group musical numbers at events throughout the year. The Senior FUNdraiser
was a Luau Carnival & Silent Auction in January of 2007. The Ensemble
performed “Once on This Island Junior” in February at the Bartell Theatre.
The largest endeavor of the year was the Disney Magic Music Days Tour to
Orlando! Staff members at Disney World were impressed by the
professionalism, kindness, and extraordinary skill of MadCAP’s Ensemble
students.
Musical Theatre Project For
2007-2008:
Disney’s “Mulan Junior”
The Senior Ensemble production is
based on the 1998 Disney film MULAN and the story FA MULAN by
Robert D. San Souci. Travel back to the legendary, story-telling days of
ancient China with this actionpacked stage adaptation of Disney’s Mulan.
Mulan is a girl, the only child of her honored family. When war breaks out,
one man from every family is called to arms. Mulan decides to prove herself
to her family and takes her father’s place in the Chinese army. Mulan, Mushu
(dishonored guardian dragon sent to aid Mulan), and all of her new Chinese
Army friends have to risk everything in order to save all of China. The
score includes favorites like “Reflection,” “Honor to Us All”
and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” as well as new songs that will get
your audience up on its feet.
